The school hasn't gone out yet. 2 years ago we had a problem at school when it exploded. It was on a day with -20 degree weather. The boiler was making a funny smell as it went out. I know this because the boiler is right next to the ventilation equipment. So the smell and smoke were being pumped through the school through the ventilation equipment. That is probably is what would have killed most people. Even if you were on the top floor you could still choke from the smoke. My friend who was near the boiler when it went off told me this. He was standing outside the band room when he hears this BOOM!!!! The floor rattled and shook, then the fire alarm went off. So he put two and two together and left. He saw that the hall was full of smoke as he left. The boiler is not the original boiler, but it has got to be at least 60 years old. My friend also took a tour of the school in third grade. He said that there were 2 boilers in the boiler room. A black coal one, with probably is the original one, and a blue one. The blue one is a natural gas one that heats the school. When we evacuated the nurse got on the intercom and said to bring our jackets. So all the kids who heard her ran and got their jackets, witch separated all the classes. Except the teachers took jackets out of lockers and took then to the atrium. So then kids could get them after we were let back in the building, but some peoples things got lost and were never returned. Also, it was about half an hour before we were let back in the building so they had to wait instead of being warm. Also, some kids were wearing short sleeves and pants! The teachers were taking away cell phones if you were using them too. That is a bad move because the parents should know what is happening at the school. Now the school sent out a robot call to the parents about what was happening, but they said we were walked to the fire station and everything was fine. We were sent to the fire station and all but some kids were put on buses to go to Southwest High School. The school didn’t mention anything about that in the call. Also we didn’t know who went to Southwest until we were back in the gym and did role call. Now what if someone had a doctor appointment and their parents needed to pick them up? The parents would get the call, go to the fire station, search through tons of kids, then hear that they are at Southwest, go to Southwest and finally get their kid. I sear that this will not I repeat NOT be the last time this happens.
